Soya originates from the Far East, where it has always been a staple food ingredient. It is currently grown in many temperate to warm climates across the world. Soya extract is derived from its seeds. Soya lecithin (phospholipid complex derived from soy beans) is mainly used in cosmetics as a hydrating agent.

Soya extract is rich in carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. It is used in cosmetics as a hair conditioner, due to its anti-breakage properties and its ability to hydrate and protect hair fibres. Its isoflavones protect hair colour from oxidisation.

In phytotherapy, Soya has been used in hormone replacement therapies during the menopause and as an adjuvant in osteoporotic processes, again, thanks to its isoflavone content.
